Big Sin, Little Sin

In God’s eyes sin is sin.

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21

Sexual sin, witchcraft and jealousy are all in the same list. Sin is sin and separates us from God. He is pure and holy, we are not. Because of the work of Jesus Christ on the cross we can be made pure and holy by Him and Him alone. So if you are a Muslim or a murderer you can be made right with God. It is all about Jesus.

  • Pray for Tunisians of all different sin backgrounds to find freedom from sin in the Lord Jesus.
  • Pray that those who walk with Jesus would teach His Word and fall in love with following His ways.
  • Pray they would not follow a religion to be holy, but follow the person of the Lord Jesus.
  • Pray they will find ever-increasing freedom as they follow Jesus. If you see areas in your own life where there is a lack of freedom, give those to the Lord Jesus, confess and repent for the Kingdom of God is near.

Eye for Eye, Tooth for Tooth

Tunisia, like many cultures in the world, holds to an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth kind of justice. As people sat around Jesus and heard His teaching can you imagine how hard it was for them? The disciples were committed to follow Him, but they must have been challenged to their cores many times. Again and again they were challenged to obey Jesus or walk away. Jesus’ words are from a different kingdom, a kingdom where repentance and obedience are key.

  • Pray for a growing repentance of sin in Tunisia, and pray for a greater walking in obedience. Because we are praying towards a movement of discipleship this prayer for repentance and obedience can be prayed over believers and non-believers. Jesus performed miracles with a desire for citywide repentance.

Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
Matthew 11:20-24

Disciples Make Disciples

In a growing number of places in the Muslim world there are people who have come to know the Lord Jesus, who are sharing their young faith with others. Those others have in turn started to tell others as well, and there are more generations of new believers. This is the design of the Good News, that as people come to Jesus in repentance and for salvation they are set free. They then become givers of life and desire to set others free.

  • Pray against anything that stops disciples from being disciple makers. What in your own life stops you from making disciples? Think through those things; now pray against those things that stop you from making disciples. Many of these same things are what keep disciples in Tunisia from heading out and making disciples.
  • Pray against anything in a Muslim culture that would stop disciples from making disciples.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20

God’s Word is God’s Word

The Bible is the Word of God. As Tunisian Muslims read or hear any of God’s Word they are hearing words that God wants people to obey. Pray that in many more ways Tunisian Muslims will hear God’s Word. Maybe this is a willful study of God’s Word from the beginning of creation to Christ. Maybe this is the continued reading of God’s Word through the Internet. Maybe this is a believer in Tunisia giving out Scripture portions.

  • Pray that God’s Word is going out and that Tunisia would be flooded with people starting to obey more and more the very truths found in the Bible.
  • Pray that Tunisians would not just hear God’s Word but that they would obey it.

He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
Luke 11:28

Jesus’ Friend

You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
John 15:14-15

Jesus’ friends obey Jesus. They follow the commands of Jesus. Pray of a greater friendship with Jesus for disciples in Tunisia. These disciples are becoming greater friends with Jesus because they are obeying Jesus’ commands. As they learn to obey Jesus’ commands they go deeper in Jesus and in their knowledge of the Father.

  • Pray for them to go into greater obedience and also greater friendship with Jesus.
  • Pray for Tunisian Muslims to also grow in their friendship with Jesus, and as they grow deeper in that friendship that they will learn to obey His commandments.
  • Pray that as they obey more and more they will come to know Jesus as friend and savior.

Much Fruit

This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit,
showing yourselves to be my disciples.

John 15:8

You did not choose me,
but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

John 15:16

Obedient disciples bear fruit, they bear much fruit. The Father is glorified when disciples bear much fruit. As we read this simple Scripture and seek to pray for Tunisia, we realize that we fail to bear much fruit. Repent of not seeking to bear fruit and seek to abide deeper in Jesus so you can bear more fruit. Pray that disciples in Tunisia would bear fruit, which they would so live the life of Jesus that fruit would be produced. A fruit tree produces fruit, which is what it does. A disciple of Jesus produces disciples, that is what we do. Ask God to help Tunisian believers to make disciples, who in turn will bear fruit and make disciples.

Simple Concept

One of the simplest concepts in following after God is to obey. The people of God in the Old Testament again and again were told to obey. Even in Jeremiah 42 and 43, this was after Jerusalem had been destroyed and most of the people have died by sword, famine or plague, again the people were seeking the Lord about what they should do.

Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the Lord your God sends you to tell us. Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the Lord our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the Lord our God.”
Jeremiah 42:5-6

God, through Jeremiah, told them to stay in the land. They wanted to flee to Egypt. They had just committed to OBEY, God tells them if they disobey they will be destroyed by sword, famine and plague. But the people disobey – they are fearful.

  • Pray for a spirit in believers in Tunisia for a great faithfulness to OBEY GOD, repent of all rebellion against God and seek to obey.
  • Pray that as Tunisian Muslims come to know Jesus, they will obey the teachings of God.
